Why we created Craftmark

Craftmark began with one repeat order and grew into a question about better information for both makers and buyers.

The experience behind Craftmark

    A successful first order

    Our first custom order with a small European producer was completed successfully.

    Trust led to a repeat order

    Because the first experience had gone well, we ordered again and paid for materials.

  3. 03

    The second order was not fulfilled

    The repeat order never arrived and the information available to us was no longer current.

  4. 04

    The register told a different story

    We later learned that the company had already been removed from the relevant company register.

    A structural information gap

    Trust from a past order did not provide a current view of business status, terms, evidence or progress.

THE BROADER LESSON

The problem is not small producers

One failed order does not define Europe's independent workshops. Many do excellent, responsible work.

The structural problem is that buyers lack a clear, current record, while legitimate small producers lack affordable tools to demonstrate credibility and become discoverable beyond local networks.
